A landmark. Although this tiny bar is strategically located on the corner of Eastern and Western Avenue, on a Saturday night there was plenty of room for two strangers. The Buchanan atmosphere was warm and very friendly, the regulars took to us right away and treated us as cousins.
The bartender asked us if we had I.D.'s. We said "Yes" and he said O.K. and served us two Budweisers without seeing our licenses - what a trusting soul. What a pal.
When visiting the Buchanan, one must take note of the many historic pictures (patrons, golf teams, softball teams, bowling teams) on its walls - showing that this bar has truly stood the test of time.
The men's room is very interesting: it has no sink, no urinal, no mirror; it's just a room about the size of a small closet (you have to duck to enter) with a 6 foot ceiling - with a toilet (with no tank) and a button on the wall if you care to flush. Simple, functional, appropriate.
A good place to hoist em.
